This painting is part of ‘The Duality’ collection, an intimate collection of contemporary female figures exploring the fine balance of emotions and ways of being. Through the use of watercolour and modern line work, each piece expresses a duelling sentiment.
This collection began with a vision following a message I received from a friend about a difficult journey she was about to embark on. She shared the news that she was recently diagnosed with cancer —thankfully she caught it early and her prognosis was very positive. As I reflected on my friend and her journey, I wanted to create a piece that symbolized her vulnerability and her courage—both being present and in harmony. As the body of work grew, it came to represent the idea that we as women are never only one thing, we wear many hats, pass through many emotions, but in the end we are simply us. Raw. Bold. Beautiful. Whole.
Only in loving all the sides of herself, was she able to recognizes her oneness in a world of duality.
This painting has been varnished to protect the work, and is signed on the front by the artist.
